\u00ab<\/span>Fol\u00adlow me!\u00bb This invi\u00adta\u00adti\u00adon is the 2024 the\u00adme for see\u00adtal chi\u00adle. The resur\u00adrec\u00adted Jesus speaks this sen\u00adtence to Peter. The con\u00adtext of the event shows important cri\u00adte\u00adria of a fol\u00adlower: he fishes on the right, he allows hims\u00adelf to be ser\u00adved by Jesus and loves Him, he says good\u00adbye to com\u00adpe\u00adti\u00adti\u00adon, he is pre\u00adpared to suf\u00adfer and dis\u00adco\u00advers the \u00ablion\u00bb within hims\u00adelf. \u00abYou fol\u00adlow me!\u00bb This invi\u00adta\u00adti\u00adon from the risen Christ also appli\u00ades to you.<\/p>\n

Peter is deep\u00adly frus\u00adtra\u00adted. Now he wan\u00adted to be at the fore\u00adfront of chan\u00adging the world with his rab\u00adbi Jesus. Just about three years ago, Jesus asked him to lea\u00adve fishing and catch peo\u00adp\u00adle ins\u00adtead (Luke 5:10). Alt\u00adhough he never ful\u00adly unders\u00adtood what this meant, he envi\u00adsio\u00adned a visio\u00adna\u00adry task with influence. But now his cli\u00adent, Jesus, was cru\u00adci\u00adfied by the Romans at the insis\u00adtence of the Jewish eli\u00adte. In this con\u00adtext, Peter caught the frus\u00adtra\u00adti\u00adon of his life. To save his skin, he clai\u00admed three times that he did not know Jesus. This hap\u00adpen\u00aded despi\u00adte the fact that imme\u00addia\u00adte\u00adly before\u00adhand he had loud\u00adly pro\u00adclai\u00admed that he would even go to his death with Jesus. In his hub\u00adris, he says: \u00abEven if ever\u00adyo\u00adne else turns away from you, I will not\u00bb (Mark 14:29 NLB<\/span>). Peter has hit the ground of hard rea\u00adli\u00adty. \nFishing left or right

Alt\u00adhough it was fil\u00adled with one hundred and fif\u00adty-three lar\u00adge fish, the net did not break\u00bb (John 21:11 NLB<\/span>).
\nThat we under\u00adstand each other cor\u00adrect\u00adly: Emo\u00adti\u00adons are very important on the path with Jesus. Emo\u00adtio\u00adnal matu\u00adri\u00adty is also a cha\u00adrac\u00adte\u00adristic of Jesus. Emo\u00adtio\u00adnal matu\u00adri\u00adty means that I know my fee\u00adlings well, but am not at the mer\u00adcy of them. Fee\u00adlings make life colourful and never lie. That is why they are important for the gui\u00addance of the spi\u00adrit in our lives.
\nLet\u00adting yours\u00adelf be loved and loving
\n\u00ab \u00abCome and have break\u00adfast,\u00bb said Jesus. But no one dared to ask him if he was real\u00adly the Lord. They knew that he was. Jesus came up to them, took the bread and gave it to them, as well as the fish\u00bb (John 21:12f NLB<\/span>). The seven men fished all night long and were very hun\u00adgry in the mor\u00adning. Jesus invi\u00adtes them to break\u00adfast, ser\u00adves them as their host and meets their needs. This is love gene\u00adrous\u00adly lived out, and it is well recei\u00adved. Typi\u00adcal\u00adly, Jesus takes the initia\u00adti\u00adve when it comes to love.
\nJesus then asks Peter three times about his love for him. In doing so, Jesus makes unmist\u00adaka\u00adble refe\u00adrence to Peter\u2019s three deni\u00adals that he knows Jesus. Jesus for\u00adgi\u00adves Peter. He gives him the oppor\u00adtu\u00adni\u00adty to rep\u00adent and invi\u00adtes him to live out his divi\u00adne cal\u00adling. We lis\u00adten to the con\u00adver\u00adsa\u00adti\u00adon: \u00abOnce again he asked him, \u00abSimon, son of John, do you love me? In addi\u00adti\u00adon to the evan\u00adge\u00adli\u00adstic task of cat\u00adching peo\u00adp\u00adle, he is now also to take on the task of she\u00adpher\u00adding God\u2019s flock of sheep. We are given ever\u00ady\u00adthing we need as fol\u00adlo\u00adwers from our lived fel\u00adlow\u00adship with Jesus, espe\u00adci\u00adal\u00adly love.
\nLoo\u00adking to Jesus or others
\nIt is also inte\u00adres\u00adt\u00ading that Jesus asks the first time: \u00abSimon, son of John, do you love me more than the others?\u00bb (John 21:15). This is also a refe\u00adrence to Peter\u2019s ear\u00adlier cla\u00adim to be more loy\u00adal to Jesus than the others (Mark 14:29). In ans\u00adwe\u00adring, Peter does not put hims\u00adelf in rela\u00adti\u00adon to the others, but rather takes his lea\u00adve of the competition.

Thus Jesus indi\u00adca\u00adted the way in which Peter would die in order to glo\u00adri\u00adfy God. Then Jesus told him, \u00abFol\u00adlow me.\u00bb (John 21:18f NLB<\/span>). Jesus pro\u00admi\u00adses that Peter will beco\u00adme more and more of a fisher\u00adman of the law as he grows older. And then he con\u00adfronts him with the fact that his life on this earth will end as a mar\u00adtyr. Fol\u00adlo\u00adwing Jesus can invol\u00adve suf\u00adfe\u00adring, per\u00adse\u00adcu\u00adti\u00adon and mar\u00adtyr\u00addom. For the Church, the path to God\u2019s future is the same path that Jesus took (cf. John 15:20). Fol\u00adlo\u00adwing Jesus is not a pony farm or a flowery mea\u00addow. It will not be a simp\u00adle and easy life, but a meaningful, signi\u00adfi\u00adcant and eter\u00adnal one.
\nThis announce\u00adment throws Peter off cour\u00adse to the ext\u00adent that he now looks to others again and wants to know whe\u00adther his col\u00adle\u00adague John will be affec\u00adted in the same way. Jesus repli\u00ades: \u00abIf I want him to live until I come again, what is that to you? Fol\u00adlow me\u00bb (John 21:22 NLB<\/span>). A fol\u00adlower of Jesus should focus on Jesus and not on other peo\u00adp\u00adle who fol\u00adlow Jesus. And cer\u00adtain\u00adly not compa\u00adre! Com\u00adpa\u00adri\u00adson eit\u00adher makes you arro\u00adgant and proud or \u2013 unfort\u00adu\u00adna\u00adte\u00adly much more often \u2013 dis\u00adgrunt\u00adled and small-hear\u00adted. Isra\u00adel Schwartz was sad that he was not like Moses. One night an angel appeared to him and said: \u00abOn jud\u00adge\u00adment day, Yah\u00adweh will not ask you why you were not Moses, but why you were not his bel\u00adoved Izzy.\u00bb Jesus gui\u00addes each fol\u00adlower indi\u00advi\u00addu\u00adal\u00adly, gifted them for their spe\u00adci\u00adfic mis\u00adsi\u00adon and has a well-balan\u00adced desti\u00adny in store for them. I agree with Fyo\u00addor Dostoyevs\u00adky when he says: \u00abLove your desti\u00adny, for it is the way of God with your soul.\u00bb

We often hear ser\u00admons and God\u2019s word with the ears of others and say: \u00abI hope he or she heard that!\u00bb I invi\u00adte you, when we talk about disci\u00adple\u00adship this year, to lis\u00adten to all the pro\u00admi\u00adses and chal\u00adlenges pri\u00adma\u00adri\u00adly for yours\u00adelf. \u00abYou fol\u00adlow me!\u00bb
\nWhen Peter pre\u00ada\u00adched the Pen\u00adte\u00adcost ser\u00admon some time after this fishing, he was fishing on the right, he spo\u00adke out of love for God and was not afraid of pos\u00adsi\u00adble con\u00adse\u00adquen\u00adces.
