King Solo\u00admon took in 666 talents or 22 tons of gold alo\u00adne annu\u00adal\u00adly, the equi\u00adva\u00adlent of CH<\/span> 1.27 bil\u00adli\u00adon per year. He was God\u2019s cho\u00adsen king of Isra\u00adel, God\u2019s peo\u00adp\u00adle. He was the wisest man of all time. His incre\u00addi\u00adble glo\u00adry was a pic\u00adtu\u00adre of the glo\u00adry of God \u2013 as long as he trus\u00adted in God alo\u00adne. But things tur\u00adned out differently\u2026<\/p>\n

Every per\u00adson, every one of us has a \u00abglo\u00adry\u00bb. What governs your life and mine beco\u00admes visi\u00adble in your life and mine. If God is Lord in my life, his \u00abglo\u00adry\u00bb, his way of working and acting in my life, beco\u00admes visi\u00adble through me. If I am Lord in my life, this also beco\u00admes visible.
\nWhen God calls us to live holy, He main\u00adly means that we let HIM<\/span> be Lord com\u00adple\u00adte\u00adly in our hearts, so that He can show His love in us, \u00abglo\u00adri\u00adfy\u00bb Himself.
\nI would like to look at three of the first kings of Isra\u00adel with you today in the first part, how the glo\u00adry of God could or could not be shown in them.
\nFirst David: It is said of King David that he was a man after God\u2019s own heart. Even after his death, kings of Isra\u00adel and Judah are repea\u00adted\u00adly mea\u00adsu\u00adred against David and his \u00abundi\u00advi\u00added heart\u00bb. Why was that?
\nOf his exqui\u00adsi\u00adte trans\u00adfor\u00adma\u00adti\u00adon? Cer\u00adtain\u00adly not. David has screwed up extraordinarily:<\/p>\n

\tThe sto\u00adry of Baths\u00adhe\u00adba, whom he impreg\u00adna\u00adtes. Then he has her hus\u00adband kil\u00adled and pre\u00adtends to pity the grie\u00adving widow for ano\u00adther year in front of the people.
\n\tThe sto\u00adry of when he had his peo\u00adp\u00adle coun\u00adted. 70,000 peo\u00adp\u00adle die becau\u00adse of Davis\u00bb disobedience.
\n\tOr David\u2019s child-rea\u00adring \u2013 a string of disasters.<\/p>\n

Yet God said about David: A man after my own heart.
\nThe secret of David was that he never put his trust in anyo\u00adne else but God, his Lord. Even when things got very dif\u00adfi\u00adcult. He never sacri\u00adfi\u00adced to ano\u00adther God. His heart remain\u00aded faithful to God. When God looks back at David, all he ever sees is this holy faithful\u00adness, despi\u00adte the many trans\u00adgres\u00adsi\u00adons and wrong decis\u00adi\u00adons David made.
\nThen his suc\u00adces\u00adsor Solo\u00admon: As men\u00adtio\u00adned at the begin\u00adning, Solomon\u2019s glo\u00adry at the start of his reign was unri\u00adval\u00adled. This glo\u00adry fell com\u00adple\u00adte\u00adly on the source of his glo\u00adry \u2013 the bibli\u00adcal God. Ever\u00adyo\u00adne in the world at that time knew that the bibli\u00adcal God had endo\u00adwed Solo\u00admon with this glo\u00adry. Solomon\u2019s glo\u00adry was God\u2019s glo\u00adry. Solomon\u2019s life and cha\u00adris\u00adma were cor\u00adre\u00adspon\u00addin\u00adgly powerful testimonies.
\n 
\nHowe\u00adver, this tes\u00adti\u00admo\u00adni\u00adal power quick\u00adly turns clear:
\n\u00abKing Solo\u00admon loved many for\u00adeign women. In addi\u00adti\u00adon to Pharaoh\u2019s daugh\u00adter, he mar\u00adried women from Moab, Ammon, Edom, Sidon and the Hit\u00adti\u00adtes. The\u00adse were the nati\u00adons of which the LORD<\/span> had cle\u00adar\u00adly com\u00adman\u00added his peo\u00adp\u00adle: \u00abDo not asso\u00adcia\u00adte with them, for they will tempt you to wor\u00adship their gods.\u00bb Yet Solo\u00admon had a fond\u00adness for them. He had 700 wives and 300 con\u00adcu\u00adbi\u00adnes, and they influen\u00adced his heart\u00bb (1 Kings 11:1\u20133 NLB<\/span>).
\nWhen Solo\u00admon had grown old, his wives had brought him to the point of wor\u00adship\u00adping their gods. He no lon\u00adger trus\u00adted in the LORD<\/span> his God alo\u00adne, as his father, King David, had done. And he was not the only one who had aban\u00addo\u00adned God as the only God. All Isra\u00adel had devo\u00adted them\u00adsel\u00adves to ido\u00adla\u00adtry \u2013 even though they were God\u2019s people.
\nWhat a tra\u00adge\u00addy: the who\u00adle, gre\u00adat glo\u00adry of Solo\u00admon lost its tes\u00adtim\u00ado\u00adny when Solo\u00admon gave place to the first idols in his life. What good was his wis\u00addom, his gold, his wealth. Did it come from the gods of Egypt, from tho\u00adse of Moab, Amon or yet from the bibli\u00adcal God\u2026?
\n(Exam\u00adp\u00adle of water jug with syrup. Water is trans\u00adpa\u00adrent. If you pour some syrup into the water, the\u00adre is still the same amount of water in it. But what does the obser\u00adver see: only the red of the syrup. That\u2019s how it is when other gen\u00adtle\u00admen find space in my life. Even though I still see mys\u00adelf as a fol\u00adlower of God and am a child. If God does not remain my sole Lord, my tes\u00adtim\u00ado\u00adny imme\u00addia\u00adte\u00adly dete\u00adrio\u00adra\u00adtes and beco\u00admes mixed).
\nIn Solomon\u2019s case it was the for\u00adeign women who found their way into Solomon\u2019s heart and with them their idols. For us, this rai\u00adses the ques\u00adti\u00adon: With whom do I share my heart? What is allo\u00adwed to shape my heart? Am I com\u00adple\u00adte\u00adly focu\u00adsed on doing what God wants or am I, like Solo\u00admon, divided?
\nLet us move on to the third king: Jeroboam.
\nJero\u00adboam was cal\u00adled by God to be king over Isra\u00adel. His king\u00adship was also a tes\u00adtim\u00ado\u00adny to God\u2019s action. But Jero\u00adboam did not have an undi\u00advi\u00added heart eit\u00adher. When he encoun\u00adte\u00adred dif\u00adfi\u00adcul\u00adties, he aban\u00addo\u00adned his trust and God and acted accor\u00adding to his own discretion:
\n\u00abWhen the peo\u00adp\u00adle go to Jeru\u00adsa\u00adlem to sacri\u00adfice in the house of the LORD<\/span>, they will also sub\u00admit again to their mas\u00adter, King Rehoboam of Judah. Then they will kill me and turn back to Rehoboam king of Judah.\u00bb So the king reaso\u00adned. So he had two gol\u00adden cal\u00adves made\u2026\u00bb (1 Kings 12:27\u201328 NLB<\/span>)
\nWhe\u00adre Solo\u00admon made room for other things in his heart, Jero\u00adboam exalts hims\u00adelf as Lord and builds idols of his own. He has com\u00adple\u00adte\u00adly lost trust in God and reli\u00ades only on hims\u00adelf and his mind. But that is exact\u00adly what we are not to do as fol\u00adlo\u00adwers of God.
\n\u00abRely on the LORD<\/span> with all your heart, and do not rely on your own under\u00adstan\u00adding\u00bb (Pro\u00adverbs 3:5 NLB<\/span>).
\nDo I real\u00adly trust in the Lord in the dif\u00adfi\u00adcult things in my life, or do I trust in my under\u00adstan\u00adding? Does my disci\u00adple\u00adship only work in the com\u00adfort zone?
\nDavid held on to God even in the grea\u00adtest difficulties.
\nPart 2: How do I learn to trust God?
\nThe Bible is full of examp\u00adles of the strugg\u00adle for our hearts. In this strugg\u00adle, God courts our hearts. He shows his great\u00adness, his love, his jus\u00adti\u00adce, his truth. He makes hims\u00adelf trans\u00adpa\u00adrent and explains his thoughts and actions. Yet we are so quick to devia\u00adte from trus\u00adting in the Lord. This rai\u00adses the ques\u00adti\u00adon of how we can remain in this trust?
\nHow do I learn to live a holy, living life. Becau\u00adse that is our task:
\n\u00abBecau\u00adse God is so mer\u00adciful, I urge you now, dear brot\u00adhers, to devo\u00adte your who\u00adle lives to God. Let it be a living and holy sacri\u00adfice \u2013 a sacri\u00adfice in which God delights. This is wor\u00adship as it should be\u00bb (Romans 12:1 NLB<\/span>).
\nA holy and living life requi\u00adres a fun\u00adda\u00admen\u00adtal chan\u00adge in us \u2013 more con\u00adcre\u00adte\u00adly in our thinking:
\n\u00abAnd do not be con\u00adfor\u00admed to this world, but be trans\u00adfor\u00admed by the rene\u00adwing of your mind, so that you may pro\u00adve what the will of God is, that which is good and accep\u00adta\u00adble and per\u00adfect\u00bb (Romans 12:2 NLB<\/span>).
\nSome trust in idols (Solo\u00admon) or others in their own under\u00adstan\u00adding (Jero\u00adboam). But we are to ali\u00adgn our\u00adsel\u00adves com\u00adple\u00adte\u00adly with God and his will, that is good. This requi\u00adres a rene\u00adwal of our thin\u00adking (Eng\u00adlish: transformation).
\nA trans\u00adfor\u00adma\u00adti\u00adon is more than just a small chan\u00adge. In a trans\u00adfor\u00adma\u00adti\u00adon, the who\u00adle form chan\u00adges. Like, for exam\u00adp\u00adle, the cater\u00adpil\u00adlar chan\u00adges into a but\u00adter\u00adfly. It is the same bio-mass \u2013 but a new crea\u00adtu\u00adre. This trans\u00adfor\u00adma\u00adti\u00adon is what the Holy Spi\u00adrit wants to bring about in us.
\nFirst, when God can take up resi\u00addence in my heart through his Spi\u00adrit. Then I beco\u00adme a new creature
\n\u00abThe\u00adr\u00ade\u00adfo\u00adre, if anyo\u00adne is in Christ, he is a new crea\u00adtu\u00adre; old things have pas\u00adsed away; behold, new things have come\u00bb (2 Corin\u00adthi\u00adans 5:17 LUT<\/span>).
\nThe Holy Spi\u00adrit wants to chan\u00adge us in our thoughts and actions by show\u00ading us the will of God. Then we have to make decis\u00adi\u00adons to obey this will.
\nLet us obey God. If he is the only Lord in our lives, we live holy. If we live in an inten\u00adse rela\u00adti\u00adonship with Christ, we are alive.
\nI wish for all of us this holy and living life in which God\u2019s glo\u00adry is displayed.
\n 
\nPos\u00adsi\u00adble ques\u00adti\u00adons for the small group <\/p>\n

\tSolo\u00admon had 700 wives and 300 con\u00adcu\u00adbi\u00adnes with whom he shared the heart. The\u00adse women sto\u00adle Solomon\u2019s heart for their idols. Whe\u00adre do things ste\u00adal our heart or occu\u00adpy our heart \u2013 away from God?
\n\tJero\u00adboam tri\u00ades to make hims\u00adelf a god and built on his mind and made his reaso\u00adning an idol. Whe\u00adre are the\u00adre things in our lives whe\u00adre we build less on our intellect and trust more in God?
\n\tRomans 12:1,2 says that our lives should be a holy and living sacri\u00adfice becau\u00adse we are sen\u00adding Christ\u2019s mercy<\/p>\n

\tLet us see this mercy
\n\tAre we rea\u00addy to \u00absacri\u00adfice\u00bb our reign of life under the reign of God?<\/p>\n
