In the Kigo theat\u00adre we immer\u00adsed our\u00adsel\u00adves in the Christ\u00admas sto\u00adry. A sto\u00adry that comes from ano\u00adther world. A world that does not at all cor\u00adre\u00adspond to ours \u2013 at least that is how it seems. So much seems stran\u00adge. Angels are prac\u00adti\u00adcal\u00adly only known as deco\u00adra\u00adti\u00adve items. Sheep at best as a side dish for chips and herb but\u00adter, and she\u00adp\u00adherds at best on the pack\u00ada\u00adging of Pena\u00adten cream. And yet this sto\u00adry also has some\u00adthing to say to you and me. Just as the wise men from the East brought three gifts, I too would like to high\u00adlight three gifts to you from this Christ\u00admas story.
\nGift 1: Don\u2019t be afraid!
\nThe first gift is the mes\u00adsa\u00adge that the angels addres\u00adsed to the she\u00adp\u00adherds. \u00abDo not be afraid!\u00bb (Luke 2:10a NLB<\/span>). We live in tur\u00adbu\u00adlent times. Many things that are dear and important to us stand on shaky legs. Many slo\u00adgans about the feast ahead of us turn out to be more sil\u00adhou\u00adet\u00adte than fact. Christ\u00admas \u2013 the fes\u00adti\u00adval of love \u2013 some of us expe\u00adri\u00adence a lack of love in the fami\u00adly at this time. Con\u00adtem\u00adpla\u00adti\u00adve Christ\u00admas \u2013 that was once, it has beco\u00adme rather stressful days. Christ\u00admas a cele\u00adbra\u00adti\u00adon of fami\u00adly \u2013 but for some of us it is the worst days of the year, when we are remin\u00added even more of our loneliness.
\nIt is pre\u00adcis\u00ade\u00adly into this situa\u00adti\u00adon that the angels\u00bb encou\u00adra\u00adge\u00adment resounds: \u00abDo not be afraid! Yes, do not be afraid. The\u00adre is some\u00adthing that goes bey\u00adond all the\u00adse Christ\u00admas slo\u00adgans. Do not be afraid, for \u00abThe Saviour \u2013 yes, Christ the Lord \u2013 has been born tonight in Beth\u00adle\u00adhem, the city of David!\u00bb (Luke 2:11 NLB<\/span>). Do not be afraid, for God beca\u00adme man to enter into a rela\u00adti\u00adonship with you.
\n2nd gift: God accepts our odd lives!
\nThe second gift of Christ\u00admas is the mes\u00adsa\u00adge that God accepts our odd lives. We cele\u00adbra\u00adte at Christ\u00admas that God beca\u00adme man, he came into our bro\u00adken world, even very fra\u00adgi\u00adle \u2013 as a baby. The\u00adr\u00ade\u00adfo\u00adre, we need not be afraid of him eit\u00adher. Around Christ\u00admas, life often winds down. Work\u00adouts, going to the gym, school, work, ever\u00ady\u00adthing slows down and kicks into a lower gear. But it is also at this time that we rea\u00adli\u00adse how much we are also depen\u00addent on exter\u00adnal things. Per\u00adso\u00adnal\u00adly, I always look for\u00adward to Christ\u00admas. \nNo mat\u00adter how big and valuable a gift is, at some point it fades. It\u2019s as if some\u00adthing is miss\u00ading in our lives. The gift of Christ\u00admas to you is that God accepts you as you are. Just with all your rough edges. Yes, he wants to use your weak\u00adne\u00adss. God says: \u00abMy strength is shown in your weak\u00adne\u00adss\u00bb (2 Corin\u00adthi\u00adans 12:9a NLB<\/span>).
\nGift 3: Pass on your light!
\nThe third gift of Christ\u00admas is for all tho\u00adse who have said yes to God\u2019s gift, to his Son Jesus Christ. But this third gift is dif\u00adfe\u00adrent, it is not a gift to keep, but one to pass on. The third gift is then also cal\u00adled: Pass on your light! Jesus says of hims\u00adelf, \u00abI am the light of the world. Whoe\u00adver fol\u00adlows me need not wan\u00adder in dark\u00adness, for he will have the light that leads to life\u00bb (John 8:12 NLB<\/span>). After the she\u00adp\u00adherds had been with Jesus, they went out and told ever\u00adyo\u00adne about what they had just expe\u00adri\u00aden\u00adced (Luke 2:17\u201318 NLB<\/span>). Christ\u00admas is not just about recei\u00adving gifts. It all starts with the gift of Jesus to our world. But all who deci\u00adde to fol\u00adlow Jesus should them\u00adsel\u00adves beco\u00adme a gift to this world. This gift to the world is cal\u00adled the light of the world and Jesus hims\u00adelf tells us what this should look like. \u00abYou are the light of the world. In the same way, let your good deeds shi\u00adne befo\u00adre men, so that all may see them and prai\u00adse your Father in hea\u00adven for them\u00bb (Matthew 5:14a &<\/span> 16 NLB<\/span>).

\nGift one and two are the pre\u00adre\u00adqui\u00adsi\u00adte for us to beco\u00adme a gift our\u00adsel\u00adves.
