Pen\u00adte\u00adcost is the bir\u00adth\u00adday of the Church. And wit\u00adhout the Spi\u00adrit of God the\u00adre is no Church. The Holy Spi\u00adrit also plays the decisi\u00adve role in our the\u00adme for the year: \u00abYes, we all see with unvei\u00adled face the glo\u00adry of the Lord. \nBut isn\u2019t the\u00adre some\u00adti\u00admes a big gap bet\u00adween what is writ\u00adten about the Holy Spi\u00adrit in the Bible and our expe\u00adri\u00aden\u00adces? At the first Pen\u00adte\u00adcost, the\u00adre is talk of ton\u00adgues of fire, roaring of the wind and spea\u00adking of unlear\u00adned lan\u00adguages. All extra\u00ador\u00addi\u00adna\u00adry phe\u00adno\u00adme\u00adna. The Holy Spi\u00adrit turns ordi\u00adna\u00adry peo\u00adp\u00adle into extra\u00ador\u00addi\u00adna\u00adry ones. The\u00adre are three chal\u00adlenges so that we can cele\u00adbra\u00adte Pen\u00adte\u00adcost 2021 more inten\u00adse\u00adly and joyfully.
\nExpect
\nWhat is actual\u00adly to be expec\u00adted from the Holy Spi\u00adrit? When Jesus told his fri\u00adends to wait for the Holy Spi\u00adrit in Jeru\u00adsa\u00adlem, it rai\u00adsed expec\u00adta\u00adti\u00adons in them. \u00abWhen the apost\u00adles were with Jesus, they kept asking him, \u00abLord, will you now deli\u00adver Isra\u00adel and res\u00adto\u00adre our king\u00addom?\u00bb \u00bb (Acts 1:6 NLB<\/span>).
\nTheir expec\u00adta\u00adti\u00adon was libe\u00adra\u00adti\u00adon from the occu\u00adpy\u00ading Romans and res\u00adto\u00adra\u00adti\u00adon of their king\u00addom. Howe\u00adver, a king\u00addom of Judah does not need the Holy Spi\u00adrit. The reci\u00adpe for suc\u00adcess that comes with a three-step pro\u00adgram\u00adme can be tried out right away next week. We work on a stra\u00adtegy for suc\u00adcess in our work and attend fur\u00adther trai\u00adning cour\u00adses so that our care\u00ader pro\u00adgres\u00adsi\u00adon con\u00adti\u00adnues to rise nice\u00adly. For deca\u00addes we invest in our pen\u00adsi\u00adon sche\u00adme so that our high stan\u00addard of living is gua\u00adran\u00adteed until our 100th bir\u00adth\u00adday. Week after week we steel our bodies accor\u00adding to the mot\u00adto \u00abPain is gain\u00bb, but we give up our rela\u00adti\u00adonships after three con\u00adflicts becau\u00adse it is too exhaus\u00adting. The\u00adse are the things we love: One plan, a litt\u00adle effort and done. We can have cont\u00adact with 200 peo\u00adp\u00adle via social media in a week, but can\u2019t mana\u00adge to have a cof\u00adfee with the slight\u00adly weird neigh\u00adbour once a year. We have crea\u00adted a round world for our\u00adsel\u00adves. Ever\u00ady\u00adthing we do is within our power. We play with tri\u00advia and feel real\u00adly powerful.
\nIro\u00adni\u00adcal\u00adly, we also mana\u00adge in the church wit\u00adhout the Holy Spi\u00adrit: a well thought-out church buil\u00adding stra\u00adtegy, a well-roun\u00added pro\u00adgram\u00adme with modern tech\u00adni\u00adcal sup\u00adport, a few good sayings and upbeat songs, and a bis\u00adtro. And in see\u00adtal chi\u00adle they still have the idea of being able to set the meta\u00admor\u00adpho\u00adsis in moti\u00adon with a few ser\u00admons. Isn\u2019t this also about our king\u00addom? Why do we actual\u00adly want to be trans\u00adfor\u00admed in our being? For self-opti\u00admi\u00adsa\u00adti\u00adon? To beco\u00adme a good guy with a shi\u00adny repu\u00adta\u00adti\u00adon? To secu\u00adre a good repu\u00adta\u00adti\u00adon among col\u00adle\u00adagues? Every Sun\u00adday we hear the pray\u00ader of Fran\u00adcis of Assis: \u00abLord, make me an instru\u00adment of your peace\u00bb. This is what meta\u00admor\u00adpho\u00adsis must be about: beco\u00adming an instru\u00adment in His hand, available for Him and His Kingdom.
\nJesus wants to give you and me the Holy Spi\u00adrit, but not for our lives to run a litt\u00adle smoot\u00adher, to look bet\u00adter, to be more ath\u00adle\u00adtic, to be more suc\u00adcessful in our jobs. Jesus shakes his head at our king\u00addoms. God\u2019s visi\u00adon for this world is his king\u00addom: \u00abBut when the Holy Spi\u00adrit has come upon you, you will recei\u00adve his power. Then you will tell about me \u2013 in Jeru\u00adsa\u00adlem, in all Judea, in Sama\u00adria, yes, to the ends of the earth\u00bb (Acts 1:8 NLB<\/span>). I see the blank sta\u00adres of the disci\u00adples befo\u00adre me: What exact\u00adly are we to do? Whe\u00adre do we start? What do we say? Then the Spi\u00adrit digs deeper and deeper into our lives, not always chro\u00adno\u00adlo\u00adgi\u00adcal\u00adly, loo\u00adking under the bed of our ear\u00adliest emo\u00adtio\u00adnal expe\u00adri\u00aden\u00adces. We car\u00adry within us rejec\u00adtion, trau\u00adma, inse\u00adcu\u00adri\u00adty or fear. And though this strip\u00adping away can be pain\u00adful, when\u00adever we bring our hurts to God, we expe\u00adri\u00adence heal\u00ading and a grea\u00adter full\u00adness. Our rela\u00adti\u00adonship with God and others is less weig\u00adhed down by obstacles.\u00bb
\nWhile we wait for God, he digs like an archaeo\u00adlo\u00adgist. He brings up emo\u00adti\u00adons from the depths for us to work on. \nIt is also very important to obser\u00adve that the Holy Spi\u00adrit does not always lead to the spec\u00adta\u00adcu\u00adlar, the good fee\u00adling. We can\u00adnot put God befo\u00adre the cart in such a way that He must act super\u00adna\u00adtu\u00adral\u00adly. But my scep\u00adti\u00adcism must not be the reason why God does not. We can\u00adnot force God\u2019s Spi\u00adrit, but we can count on Him, (expect) more from Him. We dream that our envi\u00adron\u00adment will tas\u00adte more like God, that fami\u00adlies will be hea\u00adled, that the hope\u00adl\u00adess will recei\u00adve hope and the power\u00adless strength, that pri\u00adsoners and addicts will be set free.
\nWe dream that whe\u00adre the\u00adre is death, the\u00adre comes life. For this, the Holy Spi\u00adrit is abso\u00adlut\u00ade\u00adly neces\u00adsa\u00adry. For the Jews, Pen\u00adte\u00adcost is the memo\u00adry of the event when they as a peo\u00adp\u00adle recei\u00adved the law on stone tablets at Sinai.
