Wel\u00adco\u00adme home! Yes, how does it look at home? Mum and dad some\u00adti\u00admes say \u00abThe apple does\u00adn\u2019t fall far from the tree\u00bb! \u00abHe or she gets that from me\u00bb both mum and dad say when they dis\u00adco\u00adver some\u00adthing posi\u00adti\u00adve about their child\u00adren, and if it\u2019s some\u00adthing that\u2019s not so good, they also both say \u00abHe gets that from you\u00bb. \u00abBeing a role model\u00bb is always cur\u00adrent and is an etern\u00adal\u00adly modern, wide\u00adly used term. You must have a lot of time! \tWith Jesus Christ. By what he does with you; how he chan\u00adges you, gives you new gifts and equips you for your Chris\u00adti\u00adan life. By what he says to you, direct\u00adly in reflec\u00adtion or through words from the Bible. If you want to learn, lis\u00adten and obser\u00adve, then you are inte\u00adres\u00adted in other Chris\u00adti\u00adans! Then you seek fel\u00adlow\u00adship with other Chris\u00adti\u00adans and ask them: \u00abHow do you do it? What do you think about it, etc.\u00bb. If you don\u2019t want to learn, hear and see, you are short-sigh\u00adted, live a shor\u00adten\u00aded life and miss out on beco\u00adming a role model for others yours\u00adelf. Paul not only calls the belie\u00advers to take role models serious\u00adly and pay atten\u00adti\u00adon to them, he also calls his co-workers to beco\u00adme role models: e.g. his co-workers Timo\u00adthy and Titus! Be an exam\u00adp\u00adle to the belie\u00advers in ever\u00ady\u00adthing you say and do, an exam\u00adp\u00adle of love, faith and puri\u00adty. \nFocus on what is true\u2026 Some say too much salt is unhe\u00adalt\u00adhy. Others the oppo\u00adsi\u00adte. Some say that boys ask girls for fri\u00adend\u00adship. Others say: once upon a time, it works the other way round. Some say: A Chris\u00adti\u00adan should allow hims\u00adelf a time of silence every day. Others allow them\u00adsel\u00adves this very irre\u00adgu\u00adlar\u00adly. So, like Pila\u00adte, we ask: What is truth? The Bible descri\u00adbes Satan as the father of lies; Jesus, on the other hand, says of hims\u00adelf \u00abI am the truth\u00bb. The truth in per\u00adson. What is true is what cor\u00adre\u00adsponds to Jesus; what he tells us and what he has exem\u00adpli\u00adfied for us.

\nFocus on what is just\u2026 We know very quick\u00adly what is unjust. But what is just? In the Bible, \u00abjust\u00bb has ano\u00adther mea\u00adning than just \u00abfair\u00bb; just also means \u00abrela\u00adti\u00adonship-buil\u00adding\u00bb. Jus\u00adti\u00adce con\u00adtri\u00adbu\u00adtes signi\u00adfi\u00adcant\u00adly to cohe\u00adsi\u00adon in the con\u00adgre\u00adga\u00adti\u00adon. Just means to be fair to others in their value. To \u2013 app\u00adre\u00adcia\u00adte \u2013 their value!
\nThink about what is pure\u2026 A pure bri\u00adde is one who has never had sex befo\u00adre mar\u00adria\u00adge. The term here actual\u00adly means chas\u00adte; but also holy and plea\u00adsing to God. Jesus Christ has washed us clean of all sin and guilt when we sur\u00adren\u00adde\u00adred our lives to Him. This puri\u00adty beg\u00adins in the heart. Jesus reproa\u00adched the Pha\u00adri\u00adsees for kee\u00adping their cups and bowls clean on the out\u00adside; but their inward parts, their hearts, were full of rob\u00adbe\u00adry and wicked\u00adness. (Luke 11:39) We are to medi\u00adta\u00adte on what is pure and love\u00adly and wort\u00adhy of admi\u00adra\u00adti\u00adon; on things that deser\u00adve distinc\u00adtion and prai\u00adse. That is, to weigh what comes to mind; to con\u00adsider; to reck\u00adon with; to see it as it is\u2026 We noti\u00adce that Paul is also con\u00adcer\u00adned with our tog\u00ade\u00adther\u00adness in the church. We are to obser\u00adve what is good and wort\u00adhy of imi\u00adta\u00adti\u00adon in one ano\u00adther, to hold on to it and to do it in the same way. In this way, we can moti\u00adva\u00adte each other to do good as well.
\nPaul adds to his long list by say\u00ading: Do not stop doing what you have lear\u00adned and heard from me and what you have seen in me; and the God of peace will be with you. (NL<\/span>) Paul offers hims\u00adelf as an exam\u00adp\u00adle. Paul is a full-image role model! That was pos\u00adsi\u00adble at that time. Paul could be obser\u00adved doing almost ever\u00ady\u00adthing: tea\u00adching, working, eating, slee\u00adping, arguing, exhort\u00ading, deal\u00ading with peo\u00adp\u00adle \u2013 all day long! And us? Being a Sun\u00adday role model is too litt\u00adle. It\u2019s a pitiful sli\u00adce of your life. That\u2019s why church weekends or church holi\u00adday weeks are so important. You get to know each other from a com\u00adple\u00adte\u00adly dif\u00adfe\u00adrent per\u00adspec\u00adti\u00adve. This also appli\u00ades to children\u2019s and youth weeks. The cur\u00adrent sum\u00admer time is gre\u00adat for visi\u00adting each other. Sit\u00adting tog\u00ade\u00adther and having a drink in the gar\u00adden, chat\u00adting, tal\u00adking about life, exchan\u00adging expe\u00adri\u00aden\u00adces of faith \u2013 but plea\u00adse not only with fri\u00adends you have known for a long time. You will find so many inte\u00adres\u00adt\u00ading and expe\u00adri\u00aden\u00adced peo\u00adp\u00adle among us. Just approach peo\u00adp\u00adle and invi\u00adte them. Let\u2019s look at each other\u2019s fin\u00adgers, into the who\u00adle of life, also in ever\u00ady\u00adday life.
\nHow do I beco\u00adme a role model?
\nWhat is a role model any\u00adway? A role model is authen\u00adtic, genui\u00adne: what they talk about, they do. Par\u00adents go to gre\u00adat lengths to be such role models for their child\u00adren. Of cour\u00adse, some\u00adti\u00admes edu\u00adca\u00adti\u00adon still has to con\u00adtri\u00adbu\u00adte! Good table man\u00adners, regu\u00adlar per\u00adso\u00adnal and den\u00adtal hygie\u00adne, gra\u00adti\u00adtu\u00adde and kind\u00adness can\u00adnot be taught by exam\u00adp\u00adle alo\u00adne! Many peo\u00adp\u00adle clas\u00adsi\u00adfy as exem\u00adpla\u00adry tho\u00adse who are likeable, with whom they have the same hay, in other words: with whom they can share their own norms and values \u2013 from whom they also recei\u00adve con\u00adfir\u00adma\u00adti\u00adon of their own beha\u00adviour and atti\u00adtu\u00addes. That has litt\u00adle to do with being a role model. They are just pats on the back that sim\u00adply do you good. Actual\u00adly, one should also say: we are always role models, eit\u00adher good or bad. Becau\u00adse we are always obser\u00adved. We are crea\u00adtures who mea\u00adsu\u00adre our\u00adsel\u00adves against each other and compa\u00adre our\u00adsel\u00adves again and again \u2013 women and men.

\nWhat does \u00abbeing a role model\u00bb mean for us Chris\u00adti\u00adans in prac\u00adti\u00adcal terms?
\nWhen you grow in faith and beco\u00adme an exam\u00adp\u00adle, it often hap\u00adpens uncon\u00adscious\u00adly. Others learn from you, take their cue from you, lis\u00adten to you and pay atten\u00adti\u00adon to you wit\u00adhout you noti\u00adcing what Jesus is doing to them through you. This is what hap\u00adpen\u00aded to the Chris\u00adti\u00adans of Thes\u00adsa\u00adlo\u00adni\u00adca. Sud\u00adden\u00adly peo\u00adp\u00adle were tal\u00adking about their faith and its effects throug\u00adhout Mace\u00addo\u00adnia and Acha\u00adia! Was this their inten\u00adti\u00adon, their goal? Not at all. This is not what they did. God made that out of them. Paul, in this let\u00adter to the Phil\u00adip\u00adpians, gives God the glo\u00adry from the begin\u00adning: Every time I think of you, I thank my God. I always pray for you and do it with a glad heart. For you have been working tog\u00ade\u00adther with me for the good news from the first day until now. I am quite sure that God, who began his good work in you, will con\u00adti\u00adnue and com\u00adple\u00adte it until the day Christ Jesus comes again. What it is real\u00adly about is well expres\u00adsed by Paul in chap\u00adter 3. He is in the same boat with the Phil\u00adip\u00adpians and says, \u00abWe do not put our trust in human effort, but are proud of what Christ Jesus has done for us. (Phil\u00adip\u00adpians 3:3b NL<\/span>) Christ alo\u00adne is what mat\u00adters to me. I want to know him bet\u00adter and bet\u00adter: I want to expe\u00adri\u00adence the power of his resur\u00adrec\u00adtion. (Phil\u00adip\u00adpians 3:10a NL<\/span>) Isn\u2019t that ama\u00adzing that the full-image Paul says: Jesus I want to know bet\u00adter and bet\u00adter: I want to expe\u00adri\u00adence the power of his resur\u00adrec\u00adtion. \nA cool Chris\u00adti\u00adan is only a cool role model if Jesus is his trade\u00admark and not his own cool\u00adness. Peo\u00adp\u00adle, espe\u00adci\u00adal\u00adly child\u00adren and young peo\u00adp\u00adle, see through us very quick\u00adly! We can know a lot about our faith, and talk a lot about it, but what chal\u00adlenges others to imi\u00adta\u00adte are ulti\u00adm\u00adate\u00adly not words, but deeds! Child\u00adren and young peo\u00adp\u00adle learn faith when they can obser\u00adve and expe\u00adri\u00adence faith. The peo\u00adp\u00adle around you pro\u00adve it to you adults: Actions, not words, inspi\u00adre reflec\u00adtion and imi\u00adta\u00adti\u00adon! We only beco\u00adme an exam\u00adp\u00adle for others in total depen\u00addence on Jesus. Jesus hims\u00adelf lived this depen\u00addence on the Father! How often did he say: \u00ab\u2026as you, Father\u2026\u00bb Why don\u2019t you also say: \u00abLike you, Jesus!\u00bb I would like to clo\u00adse with a sug\u00adges\u00adti\u00adon of a pray\u00ader for each day: \u00abDear Lord Jesus Christ, I want to live with you this day in such a way \u2026that I can accept the peo\u00adp\u00adle I meet as you accept me.
