Is home sim\u00adply a coun\u00adtry or per\u00adhaps even just a house with which we asso\u00adcia\u00adte sen\u00adti\u00admen\u00adtal memo\u00adries? Accor\u00adding to Psalm 91:9, the pre\u00adsence of God makes a place a home: \u00abWith the LORD<\/span> I am safe! Yes, with God Most High you have found a home.\u00bb In this ser\u00admon series, we will dis\u00adco\u00adver tog\u00ade\u00adther how to come home insi\u00adde, find a ful\u00adfil\u00adled life and help others dis\u00adco\u00adver that home.<\/p>\n

On Sun\u00adday mor\u00adnings, when I was still in bed as a child or teen\u00adager, I always heard the mil\u00adking machi\u00adne being star\u00adted at 5.30 a.m.. Soon after\u00adwards the \u00abGruss vom Boden\u00adsee\u00bb sound\u00aded from the cow\u00adshed and in bet\u00adween the whist\u00adling of my father. When I ope\u00adned the shut\u00adters, I loo\u00adked direct\u00adly at the S\u00e4ntis.
\nSuch sce\u00adnes have been stored in my emo\u00adtio\u00adnal memo\u00adry on the sub\u00adject of \u00abhome\u00bb. Or how we child\u00adren \u00abunth\u00adrea\u00added\u00bb beans on the ter\u00adrace with our gre\u00adat-grand\u00admo\u00adther and grand\u00admo\u00adther, or how we had r\u00f6s\u00adti with crack\u00adlings, blood sau\u00adsa\u00adges in the ori\u00adgi\u00adnal pork intesti\u00adne or tri\u00adpe in a fine cara\u00adway sau\u00adce after the home-made Metz\u00adge\u00adte. A few weeks later we could enjoy the smo\u00adked sau\u00adsa\u00adges from the fireplace.
\nThat\u2019s how nost\u00adal\u00adgic and trans\u00adfi\u00adgu\u00adred the idea of home is for me. Home, by the way, is said to be rela\u00adted to the Greek word koim\u00e1o. The word koim\u00e1o is rela\u00adted to the Greek word koim\u00e1o, which means \u00abput to bed\u00bb. Home\u00adsick\u00adness\u00bb was con\u00adside\u00adred fatal. The only cure was to return home.
\nThe poly\u00admath Johann Scheuch\u00adzer assu\u00admed a phy\u00adsi\u00adcal cau\u00adse. He explai\u00adned this in 1716 as fol\u00adlows: It was due to the natu\u00adre of the air here. If moun\u00adtain dwel\u00adlers tra\u00advel\u00adled to the Net\u00adher\u00adlands, for exam\u00adp\u00adle, the\u00adre was a dan\u00adger that the coar\u00adser, more oppres\u00adsi\u00adve sea air would plun\u00adge them into a high\u00adly dan\u00adge\u00adrous fever. Her luck is that the fami\u00adly doc\u00adtor dia\u00adgno\u00adses it as a poten\u00adti\u00adal\u00adly fatal ill\u00adness. The only cure he expects to pro\u00advi\u00adde reli\u00adef is an imme\u00addia\u00adte return to her grand\u00adfa\u00adther in the Swiss mountains.
\nHome\u00adsick\u00adness is the insa\u00adtia\u00adble lon\u00adging for the envi\u00adron\u00adment that has shaped us, for fami\u00adlia\u00adri\u00adty at home. \nHe com\u00adforts his disci\u00adples: \u00abDo not be afraid. You trust in God, now trust also in me! The\u00adre are many man\u00adsi\u00adons in my Father\u2019s house\u00bb (John 14:1f).
\nThe\u00adre are more refu\u00adgees in the world than ever befo\u00adre. They are all peo\u00adp\u00adle who have left their home\u00adland and are often very lonely in their new place. This uproo\u00adting com\u00adbi\u00adned with trau\u00adma\u00adtic expe\u00adri\u00aden\u00adces on the run often has very nega\u00adti\u00adve effects on their lives. They are depen\u00addent on peo\u00adp\u00adle who offer them a pie\u00adce of home.
\nHomecoming
\nHome is a cen\u00adtral the\u00adme in the \u00abGood News\u00bb. The sto\u00adry of God and man beg\u00adins with a place. In the begin\u00adning, God crea\u00adted a flou\u00adris\u00adhing gar\u00adden as a home for man. At the end of the Bible, a won\u00adderful city is repor\u00adted. The\u00adre, many peo\u00adp\u00adle live tog\u00ade\u00adther in peace, the\u00adre are no more tears, no more suf\u00adfe\u00adring, no more loneli\u00adne\u00adss, no more hard\u00adship and no more pain. The Hebrew word \u2019shalom\u00bb deno\u00adtes this deep inner peace that makes this place a home whe\u00adre the heart finds its home. Howe\u00adver, it is not the con\u00adcre\u00adte city alo\u00adne that is respon\u00adsi\u00adble for being home here, but the pre\u00adsence of God. It stands for a suc\u00adcessful life and peace on all levels. It is the space whe\u00adre peo\u00adp\u00adle live in peaceful coexis\u00adtence with God, other peo\u00adp\u00adle and even the world.
\nSo the Bible talks about a home that includes other peo\u00adp\u00adle and the world, but is still pri\u00adma\u00adri\u00adly cha\u00adrac\u00adte\u00adri\u00adsed by God being a part of it. It is a tru\u00adly para\u00addi\u00adsia\u00adcal or hea\u00adven\u00adly sta\u00adte. \u00abI heard a loud voice crying from the thro\u00adne, Behold, the dwel\u00adling of God is now with men! He will dwell with them and they will be his peo\u00adp\u00adle, and God hims\u00adelf will be with them\u00bb (Reve\u00adla\u00adti\u00adon 21:3).
\nThe Bible ver\u00adse we have cho\u00adsen for our the\u00adme for the year says the same thing in a poe\u00adtic way: \u00abBut you may say: \u00abWith the LORD<\/span> I am safe! Yes, with God Most High you have found a home\u00bb (Psalm 91:9 Hfa). The Hebrew par\u00adal\u00adle\u00adlism shows that being secu\u00adre with the Lord and fin\u00adding a home say the same thing in dif\u00adfe\u00adrent words.
\nGro\u00adwing in rela\u00adti\u00adonship with Jesus Christ is syn\u00adony\u00admous with beco\u00adming more at home with the hea\u00adven\u00adly Father. This year we will be loo\u00adking inten\u00adsi\u00adve\u00adly at how we can beco\u00adme more at home with God, how we can grow and feel more at home in child\u00adship in the house of God. Fin\u00adding a home with God has a very con\u00adcre\u00adte effect on life. Tho\u00adse who are at home with God radia\u00adte a super\u00adna\u00adtu\u00adral calm and peace and have a gre\u00adat attrac\u00adtion. One sim\u00adply feels at ease in his presence.
\nJesus Christ gave up his hea\u00adven\u00adly home and came to earth as a human being (Phil\u00adip\u00adpians 2:6f). Through his death on the cross, Jesus cle\u00adared the way for peo\u00adp\u00adle to have free access to God\u2019s pre\u00adsence at all times.
\nAnd yet \u2013 we will never be com\u00adple\u00adte\u00adly at home in this world. It will remain an unsa\u00adtis\u00adfied lon\u00adging. Bil\u00adly Gra\u00adham coin\u00aded the state\u00adment: \u00abMy home is hea\u00adven. I\u2019m just tra\u00advel\u00adling through this world.\u00bb He was pro\u00adba\u00adb\u00adly inspi\u00adred by the patri\u00adarch Jacob who, when asked about his age, repli\u00aded to Pha\u00adraoh, \u00abI have lived as a sojour\u00adner on this earth for 130 years \u2013 and they have been hard years\u00bb (Gene\u00adsis 47:9). This can also be found in Psalm 119:19: \u00abOnly a sojour\u00adner am I on this earth\u00bb (NG\u00dc<\/span>). In all of us slum\u00adbers the lon\u00adging for the final home \u2013 the hea\u00adven\u00adly Jeru\u00adsa\u00adlem. Only the\u00adre will our hearts come to rest com\u00adple\u00adte\u00adly and be com\u00adple\u00adte\u00adly at home.
\nLiving hospitality!
\nThe two words \u00abwel\u00adco\u00adme home\u00bb con\u00adtain the invi\u00adta\u00adti\u00adon \u00abcome home\u00bb. The big ques\u00adti\u00adon is how we can plau\u00adsi\u00adbly explain to other peo\u00adp\u00adle who do not yet know this home with God that they long for it in their deepest being. The best way to do this is to beco\u00adme at home in God\u2019s house ourselves.
\n\u00abChris\u00adti\u00adans should look more rede\u00ade\u00admed to me. They would have to sing me bet\u00adter songs if I were to belie\u00adve in their Rede\u00ademer.\u00bb This is how the phi\u00adlo\u00adso\u00adpher Fried\u00adrich Nietz\u00adsche jud\u00adged Chris\u00adti\u00adans. Actual\u00adly, he should have known. For Nietz\u00adsche grew up in a par\u00adso\u00adna\u00adge. After his con\u00adfir\u00adma\u00adti\u00adon, he atten\u00added a church boar\u00adding school for gifted child\u00adren in Naum\u00adburg until his Abitur. \nCould it be that Nietz\u00adsche hard\u00adly got to know Chris\u00adti\u00adans who had made their home in the house of God? Did he per\u00adhaps only get to know Chris\u00adtia\u00adni\u00adty as an insti\u00adtu\u00adtio\u00adnal reli\u00adgi\u00adon? The more at home we have beco\u00adme with God, the more rede\u00ade\u00admed we look. Genui\u00adne\u00adly lived filia\u00adti\u00adon in the Father\u2019s house has a con\u00advin\u00adcing effect on guests.
\nIn Tan\u00adz\u00ada\u00adnia, a litt\u00adle boy went to town to sell man\u00adgo at the mar\u00adket. He sat under a tree and offe\u00adred his fruit. He had no expe\u00adri\u00adence in sel\u00adling yet. He was untrai\u00adned and a bit shy. He sat the\u00adre fear\u00adful\u00adly. The more despon\u00addent he beca\u00adme, the wea\u00adk\u00ader his voice beca\u00adme. His offer found no reso\u00adnan\u00adce at all. Alt\u00adhough the sun was bur\u00adning hot and the peo\u00adp\u00adle were thirsty, his beau\u00adtiful man\u00adgoes did not attract any atten\u00adti\u00adon. He beca\u00adme dis\u00adcon\u00adten\u00adted, dis\u00adap\u00adpoin\u00adted and very frus\u00adtra\u00adted. Final\u00adly, he said to hims\u00adelf: \u00abIf no one wants my beau\u00adtiful man\u00adgoes, I will at least tre\u00adat mys\u00adelf to one. He took a beau\u00adtiful fruit from the bas\u00adket and bit into it. He lik\u00aded it. The juice refres\u00adhed him, ran a litt\u00adle down the cor\u00adners of his mouth and the man\u00adgo fruit spread its fra\u00adgrance. His eyes gai\u00adned lust\u00adre. You could tell he enjoy\u00aded it. He was enjoy\u00ading his man\u00adgo. The peo\u00adp\u00adle who pas\u00adsed by smel\u00adled the fra\u00adgrance. They saw the litt\u00adle man eating with relish and got an appe\u00adti\u00adte. Now they grab\u00adbed it and quick\u00adly the bas\u00adket was emp\u00adty. The litt\u00adle boy now knew how to sell the man\u00adgo fruit to the people.
\nOnly when we our\u00adsel\u00adves enjoy child\u00adship in the Father\u2019s house will we be able to con\u00advin\u00adcin\u00adg\u00adly invi\u00adte others.
\nBefo\u00adre Jesus left the world for the invi\u00adsi\u00adble world at the right hand of God, he gave us the unmist\u00adaka\u00adble com\u00admand to tell the Good News to all peo\u00adp\u00adle: \u00abBut when the Holy Spi\u00adrit has come upon you, you will recei\u00adve his power. Then you will tell about me in Jeru\u00adsa\u00adlem, in all Judea, in Sama\u00adria, even to the ends of the earth\u00bb (Acts 1:8).
\nSoon the D\u00fcr\u00adre\u00adn\u00e4\u00adscher gym\u00adnastics evening will take place again. Our kids have asked if their col\u00adle\u00adagues could sleep over. It seems that a lar\u00adger num\u00adber of peo\u00adp\u00adle are gathe\u00adring the\u00adre. Every invi\u00adta\u00adti\u00adon to come home is a fores\u00adha\u00addow for glo\u00adry in the Father\u2019s house of God.
\nCome home! We may take the role of host and invi\u00adte as many peo\u00adp\u00adle as we like into the house whe\u00adre God is Father and Mother. In the house of God the\u00adre is no limi\u00adta\u00adti\u00adon of space. The Father of the house has ope\u00adned his arms wide to all people.
\nBy the way, the church is sup\u00adpo\u00adsed to repre\u00adsent the way of hos\u00adpi\u00adta\u00adli\u00adty of this God on earth. Inde\u00aded, Paul decla\u00adres that the church is the house of God. \u00abBut in case my coming is delay\u00aded, I am wri\u00adting you this let\u00adter so that you may know how tho\u00adse who belong to the house of God, the church of the living God, should con\u00adduct them\u00adsel\u00adves\u00bb (1 Timo\u00adthy 3:15). The house rules and cul\u00adtu\u00adre of God\u2019s house are to be expe\u00adri\u00aden\u00adced by peo\u00adp\u00adle in the local church. The\u00adr\u00ade\u00adfo\u00adre, our wel\u00adco\u00adming cul\u00adtu\u00adre is not just nice, nor is it just a requi\u00adre\u00adment of a church-buil\u00adding phi\u00adlo\u00adso\u00adphy. No, it is not about having as big a church as pos\u00adsi\u00adble, but has a very direct evan\u00adge\u00adli\u00adstic cha\u00adrac\u00adter. We want to repre\u00adsent the house of God in this world and open our arms as wide to peo\u00adp\u00adle as the Father did in the para\u00adble of the pro\u00addi\u00adgal sons.
\nIt beca\u00adme clear that the new annu\u00adal the\u00adme \u00abwel\u00adco\u00adme home\u00bb has a lot of poten\u00adti\u00adal and will hard\u00adly bore us. So that we can stay with the the\u00adme throug\u00adhout the year, we are giving you a key engra\u00adved with \u00abwel\u00adco\u00adme home\u00bb and \u00abPsalm 91:9\u00bb. It is meant to sym\u00adbo\u00adli\u00adse access to the house of God.
